Three simple steps to start learning with your local Thai teacher

1. Enrolment: Enrol to receive the login details for your Hub Page where you can view and download your learning materials and access your teacher contact information.

2. Free Trial: Contact your teacher to arrange a one hour free trial lesson. Your teacher will introduce you to the course materials, assess your current skills, ensure you start at the correct level and work out the logistics of where and when to have further lessons.

3. Learn Thai: Arrange your tuition and pay your teacher directly. Continue to learn for as long as you need and book lessons at times to suit you and your teacher.

Short Course Information :

About : The Short Course is the first stage of the Speak Thai Course which has 10 chapters and the principles of Thai language to learn with your teacher. Each chapter is sectioned into different topics which contain;

- Vocabulary

- Dialogue or example sentences

- Grammar and language points

- Customs, culture, characteristics and manners relating to each subject. View example chapter

Homework : 

Self study materials are separated into 5 parts to help you practise and improve essential skills in learning a language;

- Listening and pronunciation (Audio tasks)

- Vocabulary and structure accuracy (Written and audio tasks)

- Function / Grammar (Written tasks)

- Fluency (Written tasks)

- Principles (Written tasks)

Audio Materials :

- Listen online or download over 4 hours of MP3 audio files

- Audio can be used in conjunction with each chapter and each homework task

- The aim is to help you develop listening skills as well as remind you the tone and pronunciation of each new word

- The audio has a male and female Thai speaker to help you hear the differences between their voices

- View an example chapter and follow with the example MP3 (Chapter 1 / Audio 1.1)

- Thai pronunciation ; consonant sounds, vowel sounds, final consonant sounds, tones, pronunciation of different type of words

- Principles of Thai language ; short history of Thai language, dialects, English in Thai language, type of words, etc.

- Basic grammar to get started and to make a basic sentence correctly

Course Aims & Achievement :

- Understand about the basics of Thai language ; pronunciation ; basic vocabulary, basic grammar, principles, culture, manners and characteristics of Thais

- Students are able to speak basic Thai conversations used in everyday life

Duration :

- Arrange as many lessons as you need (average 10-20 hours tuition)

Lesson plan :

- One chapter can be taught in 1 or 2 hours depending on each individual (There are 10 chapters in total).

- We advise you attend at least one or two, 1 hour lessons per week

- You may increase lesson duration (1.5 hours or 2 hours) and pay your teacher pro rata

- Try to leave 2 or 3 days between lessons to give you time to practice and consolidate new skills

Method : 

- Learn to make Thai sounds and tones to pronounce Thai words correctly

- Use repetition to help you memorize until you can differentiate different sounds and tones

- Practise listening until you can distinguish Thai sounds and tones

- Build up lots of vocabulary and understand Thai grammar

- Learn how to make simple and complicated sentences to use in conversations

- Practise conversation with your teacher to help you speak naturally

Private tuition or save money when you learn with a friend. Enrol and get access to learn in person or online with any of our trained Thai teachers. Download the stage one written and audio learning materials. Watch video lessons. Receive support from Thai Style and we will help you throughout your learning experience. You then pay your teacher for their tuition and you can learn for as long as you need to complete the course.

Tuition Fees : Pay your teacher

- 1 student: £12 per hour

- 2 students: £20 per hour (£10 per person per hour)

- 3 students: £25 per hour (£8.33 per person per hour)

- 4 students: £30 per hour (£7.50 per person per hour)

Workbooks : Download the Short course written materials from your Student Hub Page for no extra cost or you can purchase the Short course (Stage one) written materials which are in a printed A4 size workbook for only £12 (optional).

The Short Course is the first stage of the Speak Thai Course

Important note: Learning the principles of the language is very important as it helps and leads to a good understanding of Thai and can be used as a reference for what you will learn in the future.

Stage 1

Introduction:

1. The principles of Thai language.

2. Transliteration & pronunciation guide.

3. Symbols, lesson plans and learning guide.

Chapter 1: Greeting; formal greeting, informal greeting, traditional way of greeting (view example here)

Chapter 2: Meeting people; how to ask ‘What’s your name?, real/official name, nickname, and how to say nice to meet you

Chapter 3: About yourself; Job/occupation, nationality, hometown, etc.

Chapter 4: Addressing people; personal pronouns used in different situations

Chapter 5 : People and family

Chapter 6 : Numbers and counting system

Chapter 7 : Classifier / Numerative / Counting system

Chapter 8 : Requesting / Asking for help

Chapter 9 : Things / Singular / Plural (1)

Chapter 10 : Things / Singular / Plural (2)
